In Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Sul is experiencing the biggest flood since 1941.
Firefighters, health professionals and volunteers from across the country have been working in the affected areas since April 29th.
Authorities report that the catastrophe has affected the lives of 2.3 million residents of 463 municipalities so far — 93% of the total.
More than 581 thousand people are homeless and 76 thousand are in shelters and 157 dead.
The Caramel horse became the symbol of this tragedy after having remained on a roof surrounded by water for 4 days. He was rescued and is being treated at a veterinary hospital, like thousands of dogs and cats.
